Similar in taste to lamb, goat meat is the most widely
consumed meat in the world and is one of the healthiest,
most nutritious meats available to consumers.
Meat from goats is naturally lean; low in calories,
cholesterol and saturated fats compared to other meats,
such as pork; and is high in iron and protein. According
to nutrition information published by the United States
Department of Agriculture, a three ounce serving of
goat meat has only 122 calories, 2.6 grams of fat,
23 grams protein and 63.8 milligrams of cholesterol.
In comparison, a three ounce serving of chicken
has 162 calories, 6.3 grams fat, 25 grams protein
and 76 milligrams of cholesterol. Similar servings
of beef and pork, for example, typically have higher
calorie, fat and cholesterol counts.
Meat from goats can be prepared and served in a variety
of ways. Among the most common or popular ways to cook
goat meat are barbecued, grilled, roasted, sautéed,
braised, curried, and stewed. It also can be made
into a delicious sausage.
We also offer a variety of mutton items, including
legs, shoulders and carcasses imported from Australia
and New Zealand. Mutton is well suited for moist cooking
methods, such as braising and slow roasting, and is
well matched with aromatic spices.
